To everyone who follows this GraceTribe blog, I hope you have moved over with us to and our new self-hosted site. Please forgive any limitations or shortcomings you find there. Our new site is a work in progress and an opportunity to move forward to repentance.

What do I mean by that? The way of grace begins in repentance. We are called to believe in the Lord Jesus and share in a new prognosis God makes for our lives when we walk by faith. Then, we build up our most holy faith through prayer and all the means of grace to share in responsibility with the Holy Spirit for being conformed into the image of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is our new coach and director as we are called to bless others. When something’s got to give, we bring life by laying down our lives for the sake of the gospel. We breakthrough into newness of life.  This newness compels us to move forward to further align ourselves with the Lord.

We move forward to repentance now instead of back and forth on the pendulum of a sinner’s disposition. We have been made saints of God who are marching forward under the Good Shepherd’s leadership.

One of those expressions of God’s work in my life is learning how to communicate the gospel through the internet. Thus, this invitation to follow our new website for the daily GraceTribe blog and in the future much more.

I look forward to hearing from you and knowing you are part of the GraceTribe.

As we lay our foundation of repentance from dead works we add the mortar that holds our life together with God – faith. Without faith, our foundation of repentance deteriorates back into a stubborn bias or crumbles into a hopeless exercise in trying to change.  But, according to Hebrews 11: 1, with faith, we now have the substance for what we hope for.  We now have the proof or that which can be tested in time and circumstance to demonstrate what cannot be seen by our eyes – the evidence of God’s amazing grace at work in us.

Faith is the means of exchange through which all of the old things of our lives are replaced with all that God is making new.  Without faith, nothing changes. You have your opinion and I have mine. Without faith, God’s will remains unseen and unknown. What’s normal is our own small, defensive state of blindness.

With faith, everything changes. God’s kingdom can come. God’s will can be done on earth as it is in heaven.  We are saved from ourselves and all of our sin, by grace through faith. We are made new creations in Christ Jesus.

Yes, let’s trust and follow Jesus, who declares: “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1: 15)

repentIf anyone wants to live in the right direction, this is always the starting point. If anyone wants to build themselves up as a spiritual house, a dwelling place for the Spirit, then the foundation of repentance has to be laid.  The writer of Hebrews is even more specific. He says, the first principles of following Christ as our Chief Cornerstone is initiated in repentance from dead works.

What are dead works? Anything we do or have ever done that is done apart from Jesus’ will and kingdom.  A dead work is a work rooted in ourselves and not rooted to the grace and sacrifice of Jesus.  A dead work is a work that is reflective of our sinful nature rather than the result of us being a new creation in Jesus Christ.

This is why Proverbs can say, “An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.” (Proverbs 21: 4 KJV) Even good activity carried out apart from the anointing and leadership of the Holy Spirit misses the mark. This is why the scripture says Jesus begins his ministry “full of the Holy Spirit”. (Luke 4: 1)

So repentance becomes a necessity.  Every good work or wish becomes a dead work apart from the Spirit.  There must be an alignment with our spirit with the Spirit of God.  This is why the Bible talks about us turning to God. It is so we can move with God.  Jesus says to love God with all of our heart, with all of our mind, with all of our soul, and with all of our strength. It is our with-ness that makes the difference.

As Jean Holmes, a dear saint of the Lord once told me. “You’ve got to have a with-ness before you have a witness.”  This is why, if you are to frame your life to be a spiritual house for the Lord, you daily and sometimes more often than that, lay a foundation of repentance from dead works.

HSdove We recently turned to Titus, chapters 2 and 3 to help us recognize and rejoice in the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We said there were three things the Holy Spirit does in a big way and three things that produces or makes possible for us.

1. The Holy Spirit helps us REMEMBER the WAY. The Apostle Paul doubles down and tells us the Holy Spirit calls us to a new life of righteousness and helps us to remember what that looks like. In particular Paul tells us to pay attention and follow those things that are unchanged from the beginning of time when he says “be subject to principalities and powers”. To “obey magistrates” is a similar command to follow those who follow the unchanging truths of creation. It is not some willy-nilly word to be subservient to government but a godly directive that the Spirit will help us establish our way based on the bedrock of God’s character and creation. Through this remembrance we will be able to show our appreciation for God’s mercy.

2. The Holy Spirit helps us be REGENERATED through WASHING, activating God’s Makeover of our lives. Literally, the Apostle Paul says the Spirit’s washing is a Genesis-Again act of God on our behalf. We are starting over as a new creation in Christ. The old is passed away and everything is being made new.

3. The Holy Spirit RENEWS the WORK of God in us “so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good and profitable for everyone.” (Titus 3: 8)This renewing work also includes helping us avoid being a moron, or play at life out of turn, or disqualify or condemn ourselves through any foolishness after which we might run.

The Point of Faith is to have a means of exchange that allows your way of doing things to die and God’s way of doing things in Jesus Christ to live.  The Power of Faith is in the person trusted, not the person trusting.  Grain of mustard seed size faith is fine as long as it is planted in Jesus Christ.  Do you get it?  When the disciples asked Jesus to “increase our faith”  they literally asked him to enable us to “set down our faith towards you”.  There is power in faith because of Jesus: his personality, his authority, his integrity.  Now for our faith to have power it must have a certain austerity to it.  It is marked by it simplicity in following not in its morality, or how its feeling today, or how well it can discuss faithfully following.  No, the power of faith resides in its austerity of following Jesus.  He commands, we comply.  The priority of our faith is to value what Jesus values and to do what He says.  The priority is to wait for the promise from on High and then be his witnesses!

The 300 Challenge: Help us share 300 copies of Norman Ramsey Ministries’ resources (any book or CD – $10.00 each) and we will reach the place where we can record for free any music resource Norman creates.  We are excited that we are so close towards reaching our goal but the goal will remain unrealized and postponed without your support.  So, thank you very much for all you do!

40 Days: It’s 40 days until my birthday, September 29th and that is the date we have set as our target date for contacting Tate Music Group and letting them know we are ready to record again (for free).  Thank you to Laura Lindsay, J. B. and Janet Bailey, and Gerald Bowles for helping us get underway towards reaching our goal.  We stand at 287 and counting down!

Want To Donate Norman_Ramsey_Ministries5f2c71 Some of you may just want to give a donation towards reaching our goal.  That’s great and all you give to Norman Ramsey Ministries is tax deductible as a charitable donation.  We are a 509 (a) 3 activity-based charity so you can give knowing that all you share will move us toward providing a ministry resource or ministry event that will help someone grow in their relationship with God.  If you want to use a credit card, go to, click the Send Money tab and enter our email and donate whatever amount God leads you to give.  If you want to write a check, make it out to Norman Ramsey Ministries and send it to NRM, 2501 Caliber Drive, Henrico, VA 23231.

We believe it is the calling of Norman Ramsey Ministries to make the grace and joy of Jesus as unavoidable as possible!  We do this in four primary ways: preaching, teaching, writing and publishing, and through music.  It was our goal when we signed with Tate Music Group and Tate Publishing in 2009 to move towards being able to perpetually record for free.  We are very near to that goal and we are compelled over the next 45 days to reach that goal.  With your help we can reach the goal and have complete freedom to produce the musical resources that will glorify the Lord, edify His church, and equip the saints for the work of the ministry.

How Do We Reach the Goal?  It’s simple.  We sell three hundred (300) copies of our music or books ($10 each) and our goal is reached.  In any combination of the three musical CDs (Near to the Heart of God, Apprentice, or The Colors of Grace) or the three books (Moving at the Speed of Grace, More than Breathing, or A Nation Pierced) we already have, purchase one or more and you can help us move Norman Ramsey Ministries into a whole new way of creating resources that helps to make the grace and joy of Jesus as unavoidable as possible!

Are You One of the 300? Will you share the resources of Norman Ramsey Ministries with a friend?  Does someone you know need to be encouraged to be Moving at the Speed of Grace or know how to pursue life in the power of the Spirit and live a life that is More than Breathing?  Perhaps, you want someone to join you in praying for revival for our nation; get a copy of A Nation Pierced for them.  Maybe there is a book or CD you don’t have, yet; order it today.  And everybody can use the encouragement of good music.  You can go back in time to when Steven Curtis Chapman sang back up with me on the Near to the Heart of God CD or have fun listening to the acapella project, Apprentice or share The Colors of Grace!

cogmovingThere are forty-five (45) days between now and my birthday on September 29th.  I am praying we will reach the goal before then.

If you would like to help, let me know what resources you want me to send you and how many copies you need. Email me at  You can send payment through Click on the Send Money tab and enter my email address and the amount of your support for the ministry.  Writing a check, mail your payment to NRM, 2501 Caliber Drive, Henrico, VA 23231.

godstoryWhen We Reach the Goal, This Is Where We Are Headed! Norman Ramsey Ministries is partnering with the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church to create songs for God-Story, a new initiative to help persons see God at work in their life and articulate that story in a concise and meaningful way.  God-Story is a 24-hour training event and my goal is to accurately share in song the content and movement of that 24 hours – 8 songs in fact.  But, what will we do with those songs after they are written?  That will be up to God and you! This can be a powerful means of grace for many and your support makes a difference.
