The one gift that makes all other gifts possible is the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts us and brings us to repentance and grace is always initiated in us through repentance. This is why it was so vital that Cornelius send for Peter and for Peter to go see Cornelius. A message of “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean’ (Acts 11: 9) had to be aligned with by Peter and a message for Cornelius ” through which, you and all your household will be saved” (Acts 11: 14) had to heard and received.
The third vital moment occurs as Peter recounts in order all that had happened and the leaders of the church hear that the Holy Spirit had been given to the Gentiles “who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 11: 17)
“When, they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (Acts 11: 18)
Every person who wants to experience life can only get into life through repentance. So, it is vital for our ministry and witness to make sure we have put to silence every objection to repentance occurring in others. It is even more vital for others that we don’t object to their repentance into faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
