The purpose of God’s goodness and God’s love is to get you to walk on the pathway of grace and the starting point for this path always begins in repentance. What is repentance? It is alignment to God through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is alignment to the Truth of God’s word. It is reconciliation and forgiveness because without repentance there is a gap or gulf fixed between your ways and God’s. Isaiah the prophet says, “Your sins have separated you from God.”
These are the facts on the ground. “We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3: 23) But, God is calling us to repent so that our faith is effective in changing our heart and making us holy. Without repentance, faith is just strongly held opinion. Without repentance, faith is seed sown in shallow soil. It can spring up but when problems arise because of the word, it has no root.
The jolting truth is God does not need our gifts and graces, especially when they haven’t been submitted to the Lord in repentance. When Romans 8: 28 – 30 describes the pathway of grace, two calls are placed upon a person’s life: a called to be saved and a call to serve, a call to repent and a call to respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in blessing others. One call always has to proceed the other for us to experience eternal life!
Begin in repentance. Without repentance, faith, faith’s development, blessing, influence, even transformative changes in your life are beautiful spaces built upon no foundation. When the storms come and the winds blow and the accounting is required, it will fail.
Begin the path to success in your spiritual life. Begin in repentance to move into the pathway of grace!
